From the Teacher,

Happy Catholic Education Week! I hope the children are enjoying this fun-filled week.

Next week, the fun will continue with 100’s Day, which we will celebrate on February 8th. On that day, the children should bring in a collection of something to share. Examples would be rocks, coins, stamps, stickers, baseball cards, or stuffed animals. All the children will have the opportunity to share their collection. We will be doing many other 100th Day activities that day. We will also be preparing a class trail mix. Please send your child with a sandwich bag filled with 100 pieces of a trail mix ingredient; for example, raisins, M&M’s, pretzels, Cherrios, or Chex Mix. If your child has allergies, please send an appropriate snack to school that day.

As mentioned in last week’s letter, we will begin our “green” book activity next week. Each week the children will receive a “green” book on Monday. They will be asked to read the books out loud to an adult and then briefly discuss them. There are also a few skills in the back of each book to go over with your child. When you have finished, please sign the enclosed form and have your child return it to school no later than Wednesday. Each week the children will receive a new book. The books are only a few pages long and of high interest. This task is a great tool to help improve your child’s oral reading and comprehension. It should only take a few minutes of your time, but the children love this quality time with their parents. It can also be a great time for them to read a story to a little brother or sister, while you are busy with some other task. It is very important for the children to become fluent readers at this level, so they will be able to understand the difficult material they will be reading in the upcoming grades. Thank you for your help with this project.

Finally, the children have all chosen a president for February’s book report. Instructions for this report can be found in this week’s family folder. Reports will be due on February 27th.

          Have a great week!!
