Valentine's Day
Our Valentine's Day party is quickly approaching. Please have your child bring signed cards. (There are 26 students in the class.) However, please do not allow your child to personalize the envelopes to individual children. This would make things very time consuming. we will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 14th. We are also asking for each child to bring a shoebox with a lid to school on that day. We would like the shoebox to be covered with tissue paper and have a slit in the top to receive Valentines. We will decorate the boxes at school. If you are able to send in decorations (stickers, ribbon, etc.) to decorate our Valentine boxes, it would be greatly appreciated.
Math: We are doing a great job on our Mad Minutes. Keep up the good work! We will soon start our chapter on money.
Writing: We have been working on our own stories about what makes St. Scholastica a special school.
Mystery Guest: One great highlight for the first grade class is the weekly visit from the "Mystery Reader"!
Each week on a Friday afternoon (or other weekday afternoon if need be...we're flexible), one or both parents - or other adult family member - comes to the classroom "incognito" (wearing a disguise), and the children try to guess who it is. Afterwards, the guest will read a story or two (that you bring) to the class and then hand out a treat (that you provide...enough for 30 children). Some suggestions for treats are: pencils, erasers, stickers, bookmarks, etc. We ask not to bring food as a treat due to allergies.
You may wear your own disguise or Miss Alison will direct you to ours (a trench coat, hat, gloves, scarf, and glasses). Each session lasts about 30 minutes. The "Mystery Reader" should arrive at school by 1:20 p.m. to be ready for a 1:30 p.m. start time. When you arrive check in with the office. Miss Alison will direct you to the classroom to "surprise" the kids.
Please consider becoming a "Mystery Reader". The kids really enjoy these afternoons and are so proud of themselves, if they can guess your identity. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and your child will LOVE seeing you as the "Mystery Reader"!
Please contact Tiffany Trippiedi by phone or email to schedule a date. Remember we are flexible so if you need a morning time or a different day of the week to accommaodate your schedule, please ask. We will try very hard to make it work.
Thank you for your help with this FUN program. Contact Tiffany as soon as possible as we are looking to have "Mystery Readers" signed up each week starting next week. Our first grade detectives are ready and excited to start solving cases.
