St. Scholastica School Board Minutes

Call to Order and Opening Prayer

Meeting was convened by Board President Keith Nykiel

Welcome Guests and Roll Call

Members present:  Joe Adamski ,Claire Fields, Sasha Kucera, Keith Nykiel, Russ Retterer, Kathy Slattery, Jack Springmire, Matt Trippiedi and ex-officio members Fr. Riva, Gail Kueper

Members absent: Dave Mooney

Guests: Ron Weglarz, Barb Knierim, (08/09 New Board Members: Pat Diamond, Joe Schreiber, Cathy Wagner)

Routine Matters

Approval of minutes from April 2008 – Motion to accept by Jack Springmire seconded by Russ Retterer

Acceptance of Agenda – Motion to accept by Joe Adamski; seconded by Russ Retterer

Old Business

Update on Passport (Guest: Ron Weglarz)

• Made $24K in 07/08 event
• Raffle tickets were mailed which aided in the success
• Attendance was down 200 people from YAG
• 525 guests showed up for both evenings
• The event will be moved from Feb to March for the 08/09 year
• Ron Weglarz will chair again next year
• Budget will again be roughly $25K
• Goal will be to get more people to the event and to get volunteers

• Kathy Slattery will work on this list as the School Board has taken ownership

New Business

• Election of Officers
  • Russ Retterer and Matt Trippiedi were nominated for President and Matt Trippiedi was voted President
  • Jack Springmire was nominated for Vice-President and will serve as Vice President
  • Kathy Slattery was nominated for Secretary and will serve as Secretary
• Swearing in of New Board Members
  • Fr. Riva swore in the 08/09 New School Board Members: Pat Diamond, Joe Schreiber, Cathy Wagner
• Summer Manna Volunteers 
  • School Board is responsible for summer manna (12 dates): 6/15 through 8/31);  each member to get back to Jack Springmire
  • Jack proposed each person to be responsible for one Sunday (all masses)
• Registration Day Volunteers 
  • Wednesday, August 6^th 4:30pm-8:30pm & Thursday, August 7^th 8:00am-12pm
    • Matt will attend 8/6
    • Kathy will attend 8/6
    • Keith will attend 8/6
    • Jack will attend 8/6
    • Russ will attend 8/7
    • Joe A will attend 8/7
    • Joe S will attend the 8/6
    • Cathy will attend both nights (Spirit Wear)

Information /Communication Reports

Pastor’s Comments – Fr. Riva reported the following:

• Thanked members that are leaving the School Board
• Thanked the faculty and staff and said the school is a very strong school due to the faculty, staff, parents and volunteers
• End of year kudos for all

Principal’s Report—Gail Kueper reported the following:

• Thanked the members that are leaving
• Month of May was busy, including:
  • Summit in April was a huge success and Catholic schools have a vision for the future
  • Kindergarten for next year is full
  • 4/18 – Calendar meeting
  • 4/19 - Summit
  • 4/21 - Honors assembly
  • 4/24 – Confirmation
  • 4/25 – Ribbon ceremony
  • 4/28 – Poetry festival
  • 4/29 – Montini came for a spring concert
  • 5/2-5/3 - Science Fair;  had 7 students go and 6 received Gold Medals and one a Silver Medal
  • 5/3 – 2^nd Graders 1^st Holy Communion
  • 5/9 – May Crowning
  • 5/12 – Lockdown drill
  • 5/13 - 1^st Grade breakfast
  • 5/14 – Medival times
  • 5/16 – Fr. Riva’s 40^th Anniversary
  • 5/19 – Band Concert
  • 5/21 - 8^th Grade Chicago Trip
  • 5/23 – School picnic
  • 5/25 – Parish celebration of Fr. Riva’s 40^th Anniversary 12pm Mass
  • 5/27– 8^th grade banquet
  • 5/28 – DARE Graduation
  • 5/29 – 8^th graders graduate
  • 6/4 – Kindergarten graduation
  • 6/5 – Honors Assembly 1:15pm
  • 6/6 – Last day of school

Parish Council — Next meeting is on September 9^th;  Attendees will be scheduled at first School Board Meeting of 08/09 school year

• Goals:

• Develop school budget
• Develop school tuition
• Establish escrow account for field trips, hot lunches, etc.

• Will meet first week of June
• School budget was approved

• Goals:

• Coordinate with Parish Operations
• Look into alternative uses for the basement
• Oversee Fire alarm system update
• Oversee signage project

• Discuss 5 year plan/policybook in April
