School Language Arts News The following
assignments were given to middle school language arts students on Monday
8-25-2008 They are subject to small adjustments during the course of the
week. Please feel free to call with questions or concerns.

ARTS ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING 8-25-‘08

Always
bring a library book with you when you come to class. There may
downtimes, like when you’re waiting to conference on a piece of writing
or when you finish a quiz early.

Make sure
you bring your name card
every day until you are told otherwise. Mon., 8-25–
Get your text covered by Friday. Carefully complete and sign the book
condition sheet by Friday. Tues., 8-26
– none Wed., 8-27–
none Thurs., 8-28
– Be prepared for the first DOL Quiz. Make sure your book’s covered, and
the condition sheet’s completed. Fri., 8-29

SEVENTH GRADE
LANGUAGE ARTS ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING 8-25-‘08 Mon., 8-25
– Your summer reading list will be collected tomorrow. Your book review
is also due tomorrow. They will be collected separately; don’t staple
them together. Get your text covered by Friday. Carefully complete the
book condition sheet by Friday. Tues., 8-26
– Your signature, along with a
parent’s, is due on the research paper acknowledgement (bottom of pink
sheet) by Friday. Your topic proposal is due by next Tuesday. Wed., 8-27
– W.B. p. 143 – There will be a
quiz tomorrow on Number (text p. 457). Thurs., 8-28
– W.B. pp. 144 & 145 - Be ready for a quiz on rule 17b (text p. 458) on
subject-verb agreement and the DOL Quiz. The book covers will be checked
tomorrow, and the condition sheets will be collected. The signed
research paper acknowledgements will also be collected. Fri., 8-29
– Topic proposals are due on
Tuesday.
EIGHTH GRADE
LANGUAGE ARTS ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING 8-25-‘08 F.Y.I. Only science
fair participants will write research papers (reviews of literature).
They will receive grades on
the first and second drafts.
Mon., 8-25
– Bring your Mockingbird book
to class each day. There will be an objective quiz on the book tomorrow.
The journals that you were to keep on your reactions to the book will
also be collected tomorrow. Get the text covered
by Friday. Carefully complete and sign the book condition sheet by
Friday. Tues., 8-26
– Students who choose to
participate in the science fair must return the bottom portion of the
pink research paper acknowledgement sheet with both student and parent
signatures by Friday. These students must also turn in topic proposals
by next Tuesday. Wed., 8-27
– The first
Mockingbird essay, which was
started in class, is due tomorrow. Please label it as FIRST ESSAY and
indicate which prompt you have chosen to address. This assignment does
not have to be typed, but it
must be neat. Thurs., 8-28
– The second
Mockingbird essay is due
tomorrow. Neatly label it. The first diagramming quiz is tomorrow. Be
ready. Make sure your worksheet is complete and try ex. 2 for extra
credit. Books will be checked for covers and book condition sheets will
be collected. Science fair participants must turn in the signed pink
slip. Fri., 8-29
– Science fair participants
must turn in topic proposals on Tuesday.
