Sixth Grade

Letter from the Teacher

Monday marked the beginning of the second quarter.  It seems like the first quarter just flew by.  I look forward to seeing many of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences.  A good discussion starter based on report cards is the following quote "A teacher opens the door, the student must walk in".  Perhaps you can share a little of the discussion this generates with me at Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Sixth Grader and Parent,

When report cards arrive home on Wednesday, please remember that the quarter started in August and that the grades reflect the adjustments of this student to the demands and expectations of the Middle School curricula.  Some Middle Schoolers make the adjustments with ease and some are still in transition.  Please praise your child for the effort s/he is making and help her/him to set daily, weekly and quarterly goals.  These immediate, intermediate, and long term goals help your child stay focused.  My dear Student, please evaluate honestly the amount of effort you have put into classes and participation, homework- written and study, and preparation for quizzes and tests.  Please continue your efforts in the areas where you have done well and set new goals for the areas where you have struggled.  Please see me if I can be of help.

The Sixth Graders have completed the first unit in religion and will continue to study the Exodus this week.  The class is also preparing the liturgy for November 14th.  Please join us in prayer if your schedule allows!  In Vocab, we finished Unit 7 and are working on Unit 8.  Encouraging your child to use the new words in daily conversation will help each child make the words his/her won.  Some students are using the vocabulary words in their writing for other subjects.  The novel study of
The Homecoming is the focus of our energy in Literature.  In Social Studies we are beginning to study the ancient civilizations.  We have just finished with the study of Sumer and will be studying other ancient civilizations you will recognize.

many thanks to the generous parents who helped with the Halloween Pizza Party and the Trick or Treat goodie bags.  We appreciate your gifts of time, talent and treasure.

Remember, no school next Tuesday, November 11th, Veterans Day.

Blessed be!
