    Eighth Grade News
Dear Parents,

We have already been preparing for many of the end of the year activities.  All the students have been measured for their caps and gowns, and the students have submitted the names for their diplomas.  Educational Tours has priced our Chicago trip.  If everything is available, the cost will be $199 per student.  Nacho days and other fundraisers will help to supplement the cost, so that each student will only pay $75.  We are asking each student to donate a case of pop for nacho days to help offset our expenses.  The pop can be dropped off in the office, sent with your student, or you can bring it to parent-teacher conferences.  If you are in charge of buying supplies for nacho days, please send the receipts to me.  I will send a check with you child -- usually the next day.

This week we will begin DARE classes with Officer Jackowiak.  We will have DARE classes once a week for the next two months.

The eighth graders decided to host the first middle school dance on Friday, October 17th.  The students have volunteered to bring pop, snacks, and decorations.  Our theme is "Disco Inferno!"  If your child does not take the activity bus on the day of the dance, I would like him or her to remain until 4:20 pm to help with the clean-up.

Since the state Science Fair will be held on May 8th, we will be changing the date for our May Crowning.  I will let you know when the new date is determined.

Most of the students in eighth grade had good progress reports.  They have been conscientious about completing their assignments on time.  I hope they will continue to sustain this good effort as the quarter progresses.

Have a good week!
